Who is this mattress for?
Who is SleepLab One for?
SleepLab One is designed for people who sleep on their stomach. Many customers also choose it because of neck, shoulder or back complaints, or because they struggle to breathe freely while sleeping. Not sure it suits your situation? Ask us before you order.
Why is stomach sleeping hard on a normal mattress?
Almost every mattress is designed for back and side sleepers. As a stomach sleeper you have to turn your head far to one side just to breathe, and you hold that twisted position for hours. The lower back tends to sag as well, because the pelvis gets no counter-pressure.
Does SleepLab One help with neck and shoulder complaints?
The ergonomic face cutout lets you lie with your head straight forward instead of turned. That removes the rotation in the neck that is the main source of complaints for stomach sleepers. Customers often report less stiffness in the neck and shoulders on waking.
Can it reduce back complaints?
The 18cm foam core is firm enough to carry the pelvis, so the lower back does not sag and the spine stays in a neutral line. Back complaints have many causes; the mattress removes the load that comes from your sleeping position, not the load from other causes.
Is it suitable if I snore or struggle to breathe?
Because the cutout keeps space open around nose and mouth, your face is not pressed into mattress or pillow. Many customers experience calmer breathing and less snoring. SleepLab One is not a medical device and does not replace diagnosis or treatment of conditions such as sleep apnoea — consult a doctor if in doubt.
I sleep on my stomach, side and back. Does it still work?
Yes. The comfort layer and core support you in other positions too; you only use the cutout when lying on your stomach. The design is optimised for people who mostly sleep on their stomach.
Is SleepLab One suitable for teenagers?
The mattress comes in single sizes and is also used by teenagers who sleep on their stomach. We do not recommend it for young children; consult a doctor or physiotherapist if in doubt.
The design and materials
What exactly is the face cutout for?
It is an ergonomically shaped opening with a soft edge in the sleep surface. You rest your head in it facing straight forward, so the neck does not have to turn and space stays open around nose and mouth. The design page shows the build-up in cross-section.
Which layers does the mattress have?
From top to bottom: the ergonomic face cutout in the sleep surface, a removable Lyocell cover, a soft comfort layer and an 18cm supportive foam core. The top of the core carries ergonomic cuts that give extra support for lying on your stomach.
How firm is SleepLab One?
Medium-firm to firm. Stomach sleeping needs a firmer base, because a soft mattress lets the pelvis sink in and loads the lower back. The comfort layer keeps the first contact soft.
Which materials are used?
An 18cm polyurethane and cold foam core, a soft comfort layer, and a cover made of Lyocell — a breathable fibre that wicks moisture and feels cool.
Does the cutout keep its shape?
The cutout is part of the core and the cover, not a loose add-on. It keeps its shape and does not shift when you change position.
Can I close off the face cutout?
Yes. Every SleepLab One comes with a made-to-measure insert that fits the cutout exactly. Slide it in and the sleep surface is flat, take it out and the cutout is open again — useful if you share the bed or sleep on your back for a while. The insert is included at no extra cost.
Can I use a regular fitted sheet?
You can, but it closes off the cutout. That is why we supply a fitted sheet with a cutout that lines up with the opening — free with a SleepLab One for a limited time.
Still unsure whether this mattress suits you?
Describe your sleeping position and your complaints. You get an honest answer — including when SleepLab One is not the right choice.

Returns, warranty and complaints
Can I return the mattress?
No. SleepLab One is a made-to-measure product: it is produced specifically for you after your order, with the cutout in the size you choose. The statutory right of withdrawal is therefore excluded (Article 6:230p under f of the Dutch Civil Code) and we cannot take the mattress back simply because it does not suit you.
Why is there no right of return?
A made-to-measure mattress with a face cutout cannot be resold or reused. For that reason the law permits the right of withdrawal to be excluded for custom-made goods. We would rather say so clearly up front than afterwards.
Then how do I know it suits me?
By asking first. Describe your sleeping position and your complaints through the contact form and you will get an honest answer — including when SleepLab One is not the right choice for you.
What if my mattress arrives damaged?
Report transport damage or a manufacturing fault within 14 days of delivery through the contact form, with photos and your order number. Where a complaint is justified we repair or replace the product; your statutory rights remain fully in force.
What warranty do I get?
You get a warranty against material and manufacturing defects. The exact term and conditions are set out in our terms and conditions. Normal wear and damage from improper use are not covered.
Use and care
What base can the mattress lie on?
On its own, SleepLab One is suitable for an open slatted base: the slats let air pass through the underside of the mattress. If you place it on a box spring or another closed surface, we strongly advise ordering the 3D spacer mesh ventilation pad along with it. Without ventilation moisture stays trapped under the mattress.
How do I wash the cover?
The Lyocell cover is removable and machine washable at 30°C. Wash it inside out and avoid fabric softener and tumble drying.
Should I flip the mattress?
The mattress has one sleep side with the cutout, so flipping is not possible. Rotate it lengthwise every few months and air it regularly.
Does a new mattress smell?
A new foam mattress can have a slight smell for the first few days. Leave it unpacked in a ventilated room for a few hours and the smell will fade.
How do I prevent moisture under the mattress?
Air your bedroom daily and keep space under the mattress. If it lies on a closed surface, the 3D spacer mesh ventilation pad keeps air moving.
